The Whitecaps (1-4-2) knocked off LAFC (6-1-1) and made a statement in the process, as Inbeom Hwang’s 27th minute strike stood up as the winner.
“I like that one. I know how it ends,” he said earlier this year.
Inbeom’s goal in the 27th minute ended a streak of 352 scoreless minutes by L.A., as well as a 415-minute scoreless streak of no goals from open play. With Peter-Lee Vassell bearing down on him from 16 yards out, he reacted quickly to get down low enough to stop the ball with his trailing hand, keeping the Caps in the lead.
Shots were 13-11 for L.A. in the game, with the Whitecaps holding a 4-3 advantage in shots on target. There have only been four Korean players in MLS: Hong Myung-Bo , Lee , Kim Kee-Hee and Hwang, but the Whitecaps have both goal-scorers.
