When asked what Cork need to improve upon from their defeat to Clare in April recently, Pat Ryan’s response was to the point: “Keep 15 players on the field is the first thing anyway.”
Of course, both teams have evolved in the meantime, with Clare welcoming back Tony Kelly, for example, while Robert Downey now mans centre-back for Cork with Mark Coleman back on the wing. It was a Cork team that was really only bedding in that day anyway following a raft of changes on the back of losing to Waterford.
