“Many small communities that are looking for ways to diversify their economy and strengthen tourism are starting to look at the types of amenities that are demanded by travelers,” Lohmann said. “When you’ve got bordering jurisdictions that have such high adoption of electric vehicles, it makes sense to ensure your communities and your destinations and your rural areas can actually accommodate the growing market of EV tourism.

“Sometimes people post and say, ‘I’m only here for 30 minutes,’ or ‘I’m at 90 per cent so if you’re desperate, unplug me and plug yourself in,’ ” she said.
