Kaizer Chiefs will not kick a ball in official matches for another 10 days, having been knocked out of the Nedbank Cup in the early rounds. The Glamour Boys, still probably flying high after beating rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in their DStv Premiership Soweto Derby clash at the weekend, only return to competitive action on March 19 when they host Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium – and it’s understood the technical team could look at a hybrid schedule of rest, training and playing friendly games.

The plan, it’s believed, is to nurse the likes of Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro back to full fitness after the duo suffered knocks in the Soweto Derby. Chiefs will then again enjoy another break – this time as the FIFA calendar comes around between March 21 and 30, with coach Stuart Baxter likely to lose three players in Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma and Keagan Dolly if all make the final squad for the Guinea and France friendly matches.
