Reid said her organization also wants Ottawa to bolster housing supports in the budget. She noted there are more than 100,000 Albertans living in affordable housing and 20,000 on a wait list.
Reid would also like to see other social supports, such as the guaranteed income supplement, an additional payment on top of old age security benefits for low-income seniors, to help folks get through the year unscathed. Leading up to the budget, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has promised targeted inflation relief for low-income Canadians.The Calgary Chamber of Commerce says it wants affordability initiatives for businesses, currently struggling with rising costs and inflation, economic competitiveness and diversification, and the labour shortage.
