The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6) reported a generally peaceful Christmas celebration in the region this year, with no major incidents directly related to the festivities on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. According to official reports from PRO 6 Director Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, crime incidents recorded from December 16 to 25, 2024, totaled 484. This figure is 262 incidents, or 35.12 percent, lower than the 746 incidents noted during the same period last year.
The eight focus crimes—murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicle, and carnapping of motorcycle—also decreased significantly, from 102 last year to 24 this year, reflecting a drop of 78 incidents or 76.47 percent. Wanky commended all unit commanders and personnel across Western Visayas for their dedication to carrying out crime prevention and suppression efforts during the holiday season. He noted that the success was the product of a collective effort and expressed gratitude to the people of Western Visayas, local government units, and the different stakeholders for their support. Wanky wished for renewed strength, peace, and guidance for the upcoming year, assuring the public that the region's police will continue to serve with commitment, sincerity, and fairness. In Iloilo City, the Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) under Director Police Colonel Kim Legada reported that the holiday season, highlighted by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations, was incident-free.
