As polls close in the east, Western Australians are still lining up to cast their votes in the country's historic Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum.

Thousands of people across Perth and Western Australia have cast their vote in the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum, as counting begins the east.

Polling stations across suburbs and towns began welcoming voters from 8am local time, three hours after polls opened in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT.Shortly after 8am, WA Liberal Senator Michaelia Cash cast her vote at Doubleview Primary School in suburban Perth. She said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese continued to "fail the Australian people" by not providing them with the details on how the Voice would work.

Ms Cash said the focus after the referendum must be on "uniting our country, moving forward together".At the same time, a few suburbs to the east, Independent MP for Curtin Kate Chaney was casting her vote at West Leederville Primary School. She said undecided voters had been exposed to "all the misinformation and disinformation in the social media campaigns".
