A senior Government Minister has dismissed concerns about a rift between Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers after the pair’s conflicting messages on capital gains tax changes.
A day after the government reneged on its federal election pledge to not change the superannuation system
Just minutes after, the Labor leader took to the airwaves to firmly rule out any such changes before the Treasurer later admitted he should have ruled out the possibility. However, Ms Plibersek on Thursday dismissed the concerns and said the two are"good friends" that have a “terrific working relationship”.
The pair have come under fire in recent days for backflipping on Labor’s pre-election promise not to make any changes to Australia’s $3 trillion retirement scheme.Under the proposal, earnings from these funds will be taxed at 30 per cent, double the current rate, in what the government says will generate about $2 billion in its first full year.

Treasurer makes ‘monumental gaffe’ after being questioned on capital gains taxTreasurer Jim Chalmers made a “monumental gaffe” on Wednesday morning when he refused to rule out any changes to capital gains tax on the family home, says Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
