Firefighters have narrowly saved Weiambilla shooting victim Alan Dare's home from a raging fire that has ripped through the region just a day out from his funeral.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service are treating it as suspicious.

"They'll take over from our local people who've uncovered a few things that we need to investigate a lot closer.” “Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service crews have been working almost non-stop for the past week to fight multiple grass fires in Tara,” QFES said in a Facebook post. "Understanding what Alan had done, there was a lot of effort put into protecting their property, but not much more than protecting other property up the road,” he said.Mr Dare will be awarded with the Queensland Police Bravery Medal. Two other officers who accompanied the pair snuck away and hid but the Trains had lit the grass in an attempt to smoke the hiding policeman out.
