As of the end of January, the city has received 223cm of snow this winter, whereas the Hilton Beach area has received 278cm
A typical winter will see snow squall activity off Lake Superior bury the city in snowfall events that often don't even reach the island. However, this winter has reversed that trend, leaving my snowblower busier than ever.
Why has this happened? I'm blaming it on the wind. This winter has brought unusually windy conditions over and over again; they are often east winds. No snow for the Sault this weekend to add to these numbers, and the North Channel is frozen over - so let's see if that trend changes for the rest of winter.
