B.C. Ferries is warning of possible cancellations Monday afternoon.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Vancouver Island stating strong winds on Monday could cause damage.
The statement covers all areas near the Strait of Georgia and Juan de Fuca Strait from Monday afternoon to Monday evening. Northwest winds are expected to gust to 70 kilometres an hour near the Strait of Georgia and west winds will gust to 90 km/h near Juan de Fuca Strait. According to Environment Canada, a combination of strong pressure and an unstable airmass will bring strong winds with the peak of the event expected in the late afternoon until the evening.B.C. Ferries has said several sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen could be affected Monday if the winds are too high to sail.
Sailings between 3-9 p.m. are at risk, said a statement from B.C. Ferries. “We are currently monitoring the weather conditions and additional updates will be provided as they become available.” B.C. Transit is advising its customers to allow additional travel time as buses may be slowing down due to the weather conditions and debris.
