Outdoor Recreation Council of B.C. also finds most people don\u0027t know volunteers maintain most trails

The highest rate of participation was among men , people aged 18-34 , people with a household income of over $100,000 and people living in Northern B.C. and the Interior .Advertisement 3“The results of this poll come as no surprise. We continuously hear and see how important outdoor recreation opportunities and public natural spaces are for many British Columbians,” said Louise Pedersen, executive director of the Outdoor Recreation Council of B.C.

“What’s new is that we now know that access to outdoor recreation locally and provincially is important to 80 per cent of B.C. residents. We also have a better understanding of what motivates them.” The survey also found that 93 per cent of British Columbians recognize that trails need to be maintained, but many did not know that work was done largely by volunteers.
