Officials at Reddam House school in Bondi have revealed how they stay at the top of the HSC maths results list
list of best maths results, with a success rate of 82.6 per cent, up from 73 per cent in 2021, and 66 per cent in 2020. It was beaten only by Islamic college Al Faisal, which topped the state, and selective schools James Ruse and North Sydney Boys High.
Selective schools made up half of the top 10 maths performers in this year’s HSC, with independent schools the remainder: Al Noori Muslim School was in fifth spot, Alpha Omega Senior College in seventh and Knox Grammar in ninth. “We start working them hard in year 7 and 8 in algebra,” Charles says, with more difficult functions and trigonometry introduced in year 9 accelerated classes to equip them for senior years. A former PDHPE teacher, Charles says his own difficulty with maths in high school has helped him better understand how to explain concepts.
