‘We’re value for money’: KPMG boss hits back over Defence bill

KPMG chief executive Andrew Yates has responded to criticisms of the firm’s work with Defence, and explained why he refused to do an interview with the ABC.

. In the first, a KPMG staff member had a laptop that contained Defence information stolen from their driveway in 2019; in the second, another KPMG staffer forwarded material improperly to colleagues at the firm.

“In relation to allegations of Defence breaches involving laptops that contained Defence information and the inadvertent forwarding of an email, all protocols were followed in line with Defence requirements,” he wrote in the all-staff email.“Consistent with the protocols, we ensured that Defence was quickly informed of these matters. While these incidents were regrettable, at no time was sensitive material compromised.

Mr Yates also defended partner Mike Kalms, who is an army reserve brigadier, over “inferences that this presents a conflict of interest”, made in.
