Climate change is again in the news, with the world setting records for the hottest day ever two days in a row. Earlier this month, heavy rainfall flooded Toronto, causing major damage and disrupting life for millions in Canada's largest city. Wildfires are again burning across much of Canada.

5 C above pre-industrial levels, but action so far is not sufficient to meet that goal. Indeed, the world was already perilously close to that limit last year, and this year may be even worse. Solutions exist, such as heat pumps instead of using oil or gas for heating. They are highly efficient, less costly, and reduce emissions. A national program to offer Canadians heat pumps and rebates for home retrofits would be a good initiative to save money and fight climate change.
