SINGAPORE – A process overhaul has taken place at Cordlife under the leadership of its new boss Ivan Yiu, who vows to rebuild trust at the troubled private cord blood bank.“We don’t want to fail parents another time,” Mr Yiu told The Straits Times on May 7.
He added that the management and board are doing their best to restore confidence, and hoped that the efforts will be recognised. “Cordlife continues its recruitment efforts to further enhance in-house technical expertise and improve clinical governance standards by adding more lab directors to its team,” said a company spokesman.
It has engaged a US-based expert consultant from international accreditation body Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy to guide the Singapore team. Fact is widely recognised as one of the leading authorities on cord blood banking processes. Cordlife also hopes to establish a medical and technical advisory board, and is currently in discussions with several experts to do so. The company hopes that with this new board, it can improve the quality and efficacy of its services. In February, Cordlife gave offers to approximately 1,800 active clients who had stored cord blood units in Tank A. Some 2,200 units in Tank A have been damaged and rendered unsuitable for stem cell transplants.
It is also in the midst of proceedings in the Small Claims Tribunals over a case lodged against the company in February. The SCT deals with claims not exceeding $20,000.
