Even Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott got a shock when filly Lady Of Camelot dived through to win the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on Saturday.
With all the attention and focus $30 million colt Storm Boy, even Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott got a shock when their filly Lady Of Camelot dived through to win the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on Saturday.
Storm Boy’s hopes were all but over when he missed the start by a length and spent the first half of the race chasing to get a position near the front while stablemate Lady Of Camelot was travelling sweetly in fourth.“I can’t tell you what I said when he missed and I was watching him most of the way,” Bott said. “It was clear he wasn’t going to get there, and then they hit the post and I realised Lady Of Camelot won it. That was the only time I really saw her.
Meanwhile, Blake Shinn had to pick his runs on Lady Of Camelot in the straight and was left with only $41 outsider Coleman left to catch in the final 100m. It took until the final few bounds for Lady Of Camelot to find the front and she won by head with Storm Boy bravely running into third a length away.“It was over for him when the gates opened,” said Waterhouse, who watched from the Southern Highlands.
“You were watching and hoping from there. Then you see the filly hitting the front and you go ‘yes’!”“You can never have too many diamonds or Golden Slippers,” Waterhouse said.
