The Washington Capitals have signed center Alex Limoges to a one-year, $775,000 contract.Winchester, VA native/Little Caps alumnus was previously in Winnipeg Jets organization and had 54 points in 63 games Manitoba last season.Limoges, 25, was an unrestricted free agent after not receiving a qualifying offer from the Winnipeg Jets with the conclusion of his one-year, $780,000 contract. It’s a two-way contract, so he’ll make $775,000 on the NHL roster and $235,000 on the AHL roster.
Limoges is coming off his best AHL season to date with the Manitoba Moose in 2022-23, with 20 goals, 34 assists, and 54 points in 63 games. He also played five playoff games with one goal as the Moose lost in the Central Division semifinals in five games to the Milwaukee Admirals. Limoges was an undrafted free agent, playing in the USHL prior to his draft year before playing four seasons of college hockey with Pennsylvania State University. He then signed an AHL deal with the Anaheim Ducks minor league affiliate, the San Diego Gulls, and played two seasons with them before signing his first NHL deal with the Jets last season.
The Capitals have made mostly minor signings like this one for Limoges so far this offseason, also bringing in Hunter Shepard, Pierrick Dube, Dylan McIlrath, and Matthew Phillips to similarly priced deals. Their lone signing of more than $1 million was for winger Max Pacioretty, who will be looking to rebound from a season lost to multiple Achilles’ injuries. The Capitals still have a bit over $3.
The Capitals will be looking to rebound from last season after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, and just the second time since 2007. They finished the season sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a 35-37-10 record, sitting 12 points behind the Florida Panthers for the final wild card spot.
