Warren Mundine, a leading Indigenous advocate, has urged state leaders to do better in response to reports that Aboriginal corporations are pursuing freehold ownership of public land in 15 townships throughout Queensland.
Prominent Indigenous advocate Warren Mundine has urged state leaders to"get their act together" following revelations that Aboriginal corporations are seeking freehold ownership of public land in 15 townships across Queensland .For privacy, the Queensland government is refusing to disclose which First Nations groups, from which towns, have made applications to have the land transferred to them.
“Originally what was meant to happen in these native title and land rights was to give the land back to aboriginal people, to help them economically grow, cultural activities and a whole wide range of other things,” he told Sky News Australia. Mr Mundine commented on the lack of pushback from opposition leaders, who are “following what the Labor party is doing".
“People want to work together with aboriginal people to build a good future together, but now we’re getting all these land grabs and arguments."“Because this is how Government operate these days, especially at the state and territory level, they’re secretive about their things.
