Having scored his first Test century in almost three years, David Warner says the innings holds great significance after he faced scrutiny about his form in the lead-up to the Boxing Day clash at the MCG.

"I think that one was very special," he told ABC Sport.

David Warner retired, hurt, on day two before returning to the crease later in Australia's first innings. "I think, when I'm looking to score square of the wicket, I'm in a much better defensive mindset," he said. There has been media speculation about whether Warner will retire from Test cricket inside the next 12 months, given the taxing nature of playing all three formats of the game.
