In light of all the death and violence in the city, drug decriminalization may become a key issue in Toronto\u0027s mayoral race.

Drug overdoses are a huge concern.

“Our approach to the decriminalization of the possession of drugs for personal use aims to strike the right balance of public health and public safety needs of everyone in our city,” said Demkiw. It’s hard for governments to not want a piece of the action since drug addicts have to buy their product from somewhere, which means the sellers are making millions of dollars supplying the market.

Demkiw knows this all too well, since it’s his people who have a front-row seat to the carnage caused by hard drugs. That’s why, it was important that he also emphasized law enforcement.
