The OPP charged Col. Leif Dahl with five offences, including obstructing a peace officer, stemming from a strange hunting journey Friday.
But there it was Tuesday in a news release from the OPP, who said that the 45-year-old Belleville man was officially charged with the Criminal Code offences of obstructing a peace officer and careless use of a firearm. Dahl was also charged with three Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act offences, including using a firearm carelessly to hunt, hunting a bird without a licence and unlawfully having a loaded firearm in a conveyance.
The reaction in the military community was similar to those in the hunting community, who fear retribution toward responsible gun owners and hunting enthusiasts or toward soldiers, whom the large majority act professionally and responsibly.“It’s stupid,” said one retired soldier and hunter who has served on the base.
