The REA chairman led a board trip for the digital real estate giant to Europe, which coincided with the Rugby World Cup.

“If they try to spear myself, Waughy and the board they might find they’ve got a bigger problem on their hands,” McLennan said.. A mature leader will have apologised by now, copped responsibility and then get on with fixing the sport. Instead, McLennan has lost the plot.

“This portrayal that I am some sort of like a silvertail and a toff is ridiculous,” he went on. “The insinuation that I was lounging around and partying on RA’s coin is just laughable.” But Europe is an interesting choice for REA, which has no immediate commercial interests on the continent. We understand the REA board justified the trip by taking meetings with other digital real estate companies in Germany and The Netherlands. Fellows sits on the board of Sweden’s REA, real estate portal Hemnet. But the board didn’t visit them.
