Australia’s national rugby union coach Dave Rennie has been sacked, with Rugby Australia making the surprise call to replace him with former coach Eddie Jones. 7NEWS
Watch the latest sport on Channel 7 or stream for free onRennie last week told media Jones would have no involvement with the side at this year’s World Cup while also denying he had signed a deal to coach in Japan once his contract expires at the end of this year.
The lengthy deal would see Jones at the helm during the Wallabies’ home series against the British and Irish Lions in 2025 and 2027 World Cup in Australia.“It is a major coup for Australian Rugby to have the best coach in the world return home to coach the iconic Wallabies and to oversee the Wallaroos program.
“Eddie instinctively understands the Australian way of playing Rugby – this represents an opportunity to secure a coach of immense expertise and experience at the biggest competitions, and we did not want to miss it.”Eddie Jones during a match between England and South Africa at Twickenham Stadium in 2022.He said heading into a Rugby World Cup was going to be an “immense period” for Australian Rugby.
