A neighbour has described a frightening “wall of fire” erupting, with firefighters fighting the blaze for hours before finding a dead woman inside her Melbourne home.

Emergency services responded to calls of smoke and fire at Upper Skene Street in Newtown at about 2am.Neighbours told the Herald Sun the outbreak was like a “wall of fire”.

Firefighters reportedly took two hours to contain the blaze which started in the shed at the back of the property.
