Two local candidates are angling to play spoiler in the pivotal race. Former Brooks Mayor Barry Morishita is running as leader of the centrist Alberta Party, while retired Medicine Hat schoolteacher Gwendolyn Dirk is the NDP’s candidate in the riding. Also on the ballot are two right-wing fringe candidates, Bob Blayone with The Independence Party and Jeevan Mangat with the Wildrose Independence Party of Alberta.Article content
During advance polls last week, 4,231 riding residents voted, or 12.4 per cent of eligible voters in the riding. That turnout is down from the 2019 general election, when 22 per cent of the riding’s eligible voters cast ballots prior to election day. Polls close at 8 p.m., with full results expected to filter in afterward. Elections Alberta said Monday they expect to have full results by 10 p.m. Follow here for live updates throughout the night.
