The Indigenous Voice to parliament has been defeated after Australian voters resoundingly voted No on Saturday. Follow updates here.

RedBridge pollster Tony Barry has pinpointed age and income as a strong driver of the Yes vote in the Voice to parliament referendum. The country’s three highest earning electorates, Wentworth, Warringah and Mitchell have returned Yes votes of 63, 62 and 62 per cent respectively so far, he told the ABC’s broadcast.

Electorates with the lowest household income, Hinkler, Lyne and Grey, returned yes votes of 21, 21 and 27 per cent. Seats with the highest proportion of people aged 20 to 34 - Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane - returned Yes votes over 70 per cent, while the country’s oldest electorates Lyne, Gilmore and Hinkler returned Yes votes between 20 and 40 per cent on current counts.
