IPOH: The police have denied that they barred Hindu devotees from holding a religious activity at a temple in Buntong here as claimed in a viral message. He said the police came across the defamatory and malicious message on Friday , which was aimed at undermining the police's credibility.
"The police respect the rights for all to carry out their religious activities under the Federal Constitution, and has never stopped any individual from doing so. "In this case, the police only advised and asked for cooperation from the temple committee to postpone a chariot procession to Sunday instead of holding it on Friday as it would have clashed with the Hari Raya celebrations.
"With 25,000 people expected to attend the event, the procession would have caused traffic congestion and posed a risk to public safety," he added. He said this was clearly explained and conveyed to the procession organisers, who agreed to the suggestions.ACP Yahaya advised the public not to believe and spread the unfounded claims any further.
He said police would take stern action against those responsible and the case was being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
