Nurses in Newfoundland and Labrador have followed through on their acceptance of a new four-year contract with the formal signing of the deal.

The new wage scale, bonuses, and salary increases are good for the monetary side of things, but safety in the workplace is something that will have to be dealt with, says the Registered Nurses Union of Newfoundland and Labrador.Healthcare is becoming one of the most violent fields in the United States.

A nurse had her nose broken in a large healthcare facility a short time ago, she says. Coffey notes that many facilities don’t even have locked doors, so anyone who chooses can enter just about any door they wish. They, the Federation of Labor, and other healthcare unions are pushing for a Health Sector Safety Council.
