Spirit of Tasmania ferries connecting Victoria to Tasmania have been cancelled as intense rain has prompted flood warnings in Australia’s southernmost state.
The SES on Thursday morning issued an emergency warning for Railton in northwest Tasmania and surrounds, with rainfall expected to be on par with deadly floods in 2016. “If you have a flood plan, use it now. Consider leaving ... for a safer place if it is safe to do so.” The port closure has prompted the cancellation of four Spirit of Tasmania ferry Bass Strait crossings.
