Marcus Stewart, who leads the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria, will not seek re-election, instead joining the Yes campaign for constitutional recognition.
, opting not to stand for re-election for the landmark body.
Its 31 members include representatives of Indigenous communities across five regions of the state, with 10 seats reserved for formally recognised traditional owner groups.He said the experience of helping establish and run the assembly, and overseeing work on the first steps towards a state-based treaty, would help the campaign for a Voice.
Mr Stewart is part of the referendum working group. He took part in talks with Peter Dutton on Thursday, in which the opposition leader said he believed the campaign was on track for defeat.
