A number of business owners in Victoria have written to the government to express concern about an accommodation tax being considered.

“The fact that this tax is being proposed on all forms of short-term accommodation isn’t just going to impact international and interstate visitors; this tax is going to hit Victorians hardest, when you consider that 80 per cent of the visitation to regional Victoria comes from Victorians travelling around their own state,” she said on Monday.

"Regional Victorians looking to travel to the city for the night to enjoy a footy match, see a theatre production or enjoy a major event will be slugged with a new tax. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese unveiled"the most significant reforms in a generation" to combat the housing crisis following National Cabinet last week.

The target, of 1.2 million, will be supported by a $500 million housing support program set up for local and state territories to begin building new homes in well-located areas.
