Victoria was rocked by their 16th earthquake this year after residents in Melbourne and as far up as the New South Wales border reported feeling tremors.

Geoscience Australia recorded the tremors at a depth of seven kilometres near Rawson, north east from Melbourne, about 1.30am on Friday.

Seismologists reported the shaking was moderate with very light damage, ranking on the lower end of their intensity scale. The orange spot records the origin of the quake, with felt reports varying in intensity across the state. Picture: Geoscience Australia More than 7,400 people told Geoscience Australia they felt the quake, with residents in Melbourne and as far up as the New South Wales border reporting tremors.It comes almost three weeks after a 2.7 magnitude earthquake with a depth of six kilometres was felt in Foster, south east of Melbourne.

Victorians took to social media reporting being woken up to shaking while others were shocked to have felt the second quake in the span of just one month.
