Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton has addressed the horrific car crash which killed five people at a pub in Daylesford. The white BMW crashed into the beer garden of a popular pub west of Melbourne on Sunday. Police hope to soon interview the 66-year-old driver who has been taken into custody and is being treated in hospital.

“It is still very early days in this investigation,” Mr Patton said during a media conference on Monday. He praised the numerous bystanders who “selflessly” aided those injured and the first responders who attended the scene. “I’ve spoken to the head of our road policing area today who was at the scene, and he described it as one of the worst and most confronting that he had ever been to, and he’s been to many.”
