The Canadian Football League is entertaining offers to expand its Touchdown series of one\u002Doffs across the country.
Wells said 2025 might be the earliest date for a Touchdown Pacific game featuring the Lions as home team in the B.C. capital. That’s because the prospective venue, Starlight Stadium in Langford, B.C., currently seats just 6,000. However, there is a plan in place to almost double capacity and preliminary work began late last year.
“We’ve talked to people there about the potential. Do we want to support it? Of course we do,” said Lions president Duane Vienneau. “It’s always about the stadium. You need a minimum capacity of about 10,000 to make it work and their stadium is going through an upgrade. Once that gets to the capacity you need, that’s probably when it would happen.”
CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie said recently the league wants to expand its Touchdown series beyond Atlantic Canada beginning in 2024 and has heard expressions of interest from three other communities across the country. Victoria is obviously one of them, and it’s believed Quebec City is another. However, a spokesperson with Quebec City Tourism said their office is not involved in any efforts to land a game.
