A former homicide detective who worked on the case said he was is “quietly confident” Denyer would not be granted parole, but said the premier should intervene if he does.
“What I would like to see - if he doesn’t get parole - is that the government now step in after that and legislate to keep him in jail so that angst is removed from the families for the future,” Charlie Bezzina said.Victorian upper house MP David Limbrick had been in a relationship with Natalie Russell for six months when she was murdered.“He’s shown no remorse and the things he did to those women were absolutely horrifying,” he said.
The Adult Parole Board is an independent statutory body that determines whether to grant, deny or defer parole and eligible prisoners must apply to it in order to be considered for release on parole. Laws in Victoria prohibit the disclosure of information about whether individual prisoners have applied for, or been released on, parole other than in very limited circumstances., the Adult Parole Board is unable to provide confidential or personal information about any prisoner,” an Adult Parole Board spokesperson said.
“When deciding whether to grant parole, the Board’s paramount consideration is always the safety and protection of the community.”
