VICT, the Port of Melbourne's fully automated container terminal, invests in four new hybrid ACCs to increase capacity and minimize environmental impact.

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI)'s Victoria International Container Terminal ( VICT ), located at the Port of Melbourne, has purchased four new hybrid automatic container carriers (ACCs) to boost its capacity and decrease emissions. Scheduled for delivery in 2025, each carrier boasts a twin-box lifting capacity of up to 60 tons and hybrid technology from supplier Kalmar, incorporating lithium-ion batteries for energy recovery.

This technology is projected to enhance energy efficiency by 40 percent and reduce CO2 emissions by 50 tons per carrier annually.'We highly value our partnership with Kalmar and their technical support,' stated VICT chief executive Bruno Porchietto. 'These new hybrid carriers are integral to our expansion plan, which will elevate our capacity to 1.5 million TEUs annually. This investment underscores our dedication to customer focus, innovation, and sustainability, ensuring we can cater to the escalating demand for our services while minimizing our environmental footprint,' he further added.VICT holds the distinction of being the sole fully automated container terminal in the Southern Hemisphere. Its operations encompass seven remotely controlled ship-to-shore cranes (five super post-Panamax and two ultra post-Panamax — the largest in Australia), 17 ACCs, and 26 automated stacking cranes (ASCs). This latest investment follows a record-breaking year for VICT in 2024, during which it handled its five millionth TEU since its inception in 2017. ICTSI's share price appreciated by P1.80 to close at P351 each on Thursday
