Victorian Opposition Leader John Pesutto has demanded Premier Jacinta Allan launch a royal commission following explosive allegations of criminal infiltration in the CMFEU.
The Victorian opposition is demanding Premier Jacinta Allan call a royal commission into the explosive allegations of CFMEU misconduct on government projects, as other Labor premiers rush to distance themselves from the rogue union.
However Victoria’s Opposition Leader is gunning for a comprehensive investigation into the extent of CFMEU misconduct on Victorian Government projects, as well as connections between union misconduct and Victorian government departments – to be overseen by a retired judge with “no political connections”.
The Premier conceded on Tuesday that she did not act quickly enough when made aware of the CFMEU’s alleged criminal activity last year, however, Mr Pesutto claimed the government had failed to act for several years. Mr Pesutto also called on Labor to give all of the “dirty” money donated to the party by the CFMEU in recent years to charities.
Among the allegations revealed by the The Age, 60 Minutes, and other Nine Network outlets were claims bikies and criminal figures had been parachuted into CFMEU positions on both federal and state government projects. “They’ll tell the contractor, ‘If these surveyors don’t join the union, they can get off site right now’,” he said, adding that it was “happening on all new tenders on big jobs.”
