PETALING JAYA: The temporary import ban on cows and buffaloes from Australia has been rescinded by the Veterinary Department (DVS).

Malaysia imposed the ban, which began on Aug 4, as a safety measure after allegations by the Indonesian authorities that there were signs of Lumpy Skin Disease infection in cows imported from Australia."The decision to rescind the import ban was due to the sharing of data on the full investigation by the Australia Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Department after two technical discussions with DVS," said the department in a statement on Wednesday .

DVS urges importers of cows and buffaloes from Australia to present the import application to the department before applying for the permit. The department stressed that all live imports will follow the standard operating procedures, which were set to ensure that every consignment follows a strict monitoring process.

"DVS hopes the decision to rescind the ban order gives a relief to the industry and consumers, besides appreciating the transparent move by DAFF in solving the issue," added the department.
