Goaltender Franky Lapenna made 45 saves, Patrick LeBlanc scored the winning goal and Keiran Gallant assisted on both goals in a 2-1 road win over the host Acadie-Bathurst Titan., are back on the road to face the Memorial Cup-champion Saint John Sea Dogs on Oct. 7, before hosting the Halifax Mooseheads in their home opener at Eastlink Centre on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.Before 1,353 fans at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre, Gallant and rookie Marcus Kearsey set up LeBlanc’s goal 1:02 into overtime.
Rookie Alexis Michaud, set up by Gallant, scored his first goal as an Islander to open the game’s scoring early in the second period. Jacob Melanson, assisted by Riley Kidney and Dylan Andrews, countered 20 seconds after Michaud’s goal to tie the game. The final shots-on-goal totals were 46-26 in favour of the Titan, including advantages of 16-4, 17-11 and 13-10 in regulation time.
