“I have every confidence that Pierre Poilievre and our Conservative team will form Canada’s next federal government, and while I am disappointed that I won’t have the opportunity to serve in a Poilievre government, I hope that by making this announcement today our community will have time to select an excellent candidate to be part of Pierre’s team.”
Before entering federal politics, Liepert, 73, held several provincial cabinet posts, including finance, health and energy, as the MLA for Calgary West between 2004 and 2012. The one-time broadcast reporter’s start in politics came in 1980 as press secretary to then-premier Peter Lougheed, a position he held for five years.
