Among those beaming with pride about the event's return to Yarmouth has been Trevor Murphy, who was born and raised in Yarmouth.’s board of director's first vice-president and currently fronts the band Sluice – named after Sluice Point in Yarmouth County due to his family ties. Sluice has been described as a French-Acadian band fuelled by nostalgia and hyper-regional history. The Yarmouth County Acadian region of Par-en-Bas factors heavily into the band’s music.
In addition to being involved in Nova Scotia Music Week , Murphy is heavily involved in the organization of the 2024 Congrès mondial acadien. That World Acadian Congress is being hosted by the municipalities of Clare and Argyle next August.Q: What does it mean for you to be involved in NSMW in your hometown?
“My involvement has been in many different ways. Obviously as an artist. Also, having my artists come here. Participating in the awards and in some cases winning them. What I really like about being on the board now is … it's a really good opportunity to do work behind the scenes. Obviously, I'm very proud of the work we do for Acadian and Francophone communities.
Q: The World Acadian Congress is a very important event. How do you see this NSMW event tying into that one?
