The Hill Times photograph by Andrew MeadeSenator Vern White has resigned from the Red Chamber, effective Oct. 2, his office confirmed by phone on Sept. 29.
White is leaving his post well before hitting the mandatory retirement age of 75. He wasn’t due to retire until 2034. The Ontario Senator has been a member of the centre-right Canadian Senators Group since 2020. He served as Ottawa’s chief of police prior to his appointment to the Red Chamber. Before that, he had served as the police chief for Durham Region, Ont.
