Opinion: It seems highly unlikely that the NDP government will greatly enrich its most recent offer
The B.C. General Employees Union, or BCGEU, representing 33,000 government workers, issued 72-hour notice Friday, setting the stage for the strike that began Monday afternoon.
The BCGEU issued strike notice after rejecting the latest government offer, the third to be presented in the current round of bargaining.Article contentEby has since stepped down as attorney general and housing minister to seek the leadership. “Let’s bring back the 9,000 members who left over terrible policies that betrayed our core values,” says a Twitter posting by New Democrat Ashley Zarbatany, an Appadurai supporter. “Nurses, teachers, public sector workers, and, yes, those who want a livable planet. Come take back your party.”
The BCGEU is seeking a two-year deal with cost-of-living protection allowing members to keep up with inflation, running at five per cent.
