A statue of a former British Army officer has been defaced and smeared with graffiti in protest of Anzac Day north-west of Sydney.
The Lachlan Macquarie statue in Windsor’s McQuade Park was smeared with red paint and writing that read “here stands a mass murdered who ordered the genocide” and “no pride in genocide".The figure was believed to have been graffitied around the time of the Anzac Day Dawn Service, with first reports of the defacing coming through about 7.30am.
The graffiti reads “here stands a mass murdered who ordered the genocide”, with red handprints splattered around the statue. Hawkesbury residents were notably angered with the graffiti, particularly on a day dedicated to commemorating veterans.“Appalling behaviour, disrespectful humans,” another added.
