A large wildfire burning on Vancouver Island Wednesday continues to impact traffic on Highway 4, the only highway leading to the west coast communities of Port Alberni, Tofino and Ucluelet.

The Cameron Bluffs wildfire, located just south of Highway 4 and Cameron Lake, measured about 109 hectares on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, the BC Wildfire Service said air tankers and helicopters were helping ground attack crews by dropping water on the hardest to reach areas of the fire, which is located on steep hills.Louis Verheyen, owner of the Cameron Lake Resort, says he closed the resort's boat ramp – the only ramp access to Cameron Lake – to keep boats off the water while the aerial firefighting vehicles were scooping up lake water on Tuesday.

"We've all seen situations like this escalate in other parts of the province over the last few years with some of the really significant and severe forest fires," she told CTV News on Tuesday.
