Things looked dicey after Anderson took a puck to the face and needed 30 stitches to close the wound, but he was cleared by medical staff.
The Giants’ medical staff were concerned enough about the injury that they had a plastic surgeon look at Anderson that night. Team general manager Barclay Parneta says that if Anderson hadn’t been medically cleared he wouldn’t have dressed Saturday, no matter how badly he wanted to play.
“It was definitely a game I didn’t want to miss,” Anderson said. “There were team circumstances. We needed points if we were going to catch Everett for sixth place. Also it was pretty special for me personally being my first and last game against Everett in that building.Article content Anderson said that he was having trouble sleeping and eating the first couple of nights after the injury. He sat out Vancouver’s 5-2 loss at the Tri-City Americans on Sunday but returned to the lineup for the Giants’ 3-2 overtime win at the Portland Winterhawks on Tuesday.
He also says that he deserves “co-ownership” of Vikman’s shutout. It was Vikman’s first of the season, with him credited with 32 saves.Article content
