Momentum ping ponged wildly between the Vancouver College Fighting Irish and the G.W. Graham Grizzlies in Saturday\u0027s football final.
Vancouver College won 13-12 at B.C. Place but only after a gaggle of Fighting Irish defenders swallowed up Grizzlies quarterback Lucas Feaver on a two-point convert attempt with 33 seconds left. A six-yard touchdown run by Braeden Macdonald had put G.W. Graham in position to go for the win, and that was set up by a 76-yard pass-and-run connection between Feaver and wide receiver Christian Beck.Start your day with a roundup of B.C.-focused news and opinion delivered straight to your inbox at 7 a.
G.W. Graham had also appeared ready to take the lead in the third quarter when they lined up for a 17-yard field goal with Vancouver College holding a 7-6 margin, but Cole Pryputsch blocked Josh Seo’s kick and Michael Joseph recovered the pigskin and took it back 90 yards for the major.Article content
Joseph, a wide receiver/defensive back, had a 19-yard touchdown catch and an interception and was named the game’s most valuable player. Vancouver College was the lone team to defeat G.W. Graham this season. The Fighting Irish eked out a 28-23 win over the Chilliwack side on Oct. 1 at Vancouver College.
“They’re a force to be reckoned with,” Vancouver College coach Bryan Chiu said. “They’re well coached, they’re disciplined, they’re tough. I’ll tell you what — they’re scary. They made us play our ‘A’ game.”
