In a video that went viral online, the van is seen crashing into several parked vehicles.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said that the incident occurred on July 7 at Jalan Besar Ampang."The van, which was being driven against the flow of traffic, hit four other cars on both sides of the road, before going off via a back road in Pekan Ampang. All drivers of the damaged cars filed reports on the same day.
"On July 7, the suspect presented himself to the Ampang Jaya traffic police station at 12.29pm. The 40-year-old local man was arrested," he said in a statement on Sunday . Checks showed that he had six prior criminal records, seven overdue traffic summonses and two arrest warrants against him. "Investigations showed that the suspect ran away because he was being chased by the public and he was worried for his safety," he said.
He said a urine test conducted on the suspect was negative for drugs and he was sent to the Ampang Hospital to check his blood alcohol level.
