Brandon Benedict likes the look of his Valley Wildcats’ roster. The coaching staff made its final decisions Sept. 10 and the team will play its first game ...
Foley, who played for Nova Scotia at the Canada Games, was second-round pick of the Eagles. Cape Breton has added some experienced players in the off-season as it looks to take a step forward this year.“I think they fit in really well,” Benedict said. “They’re great kids and I think they’re enjoying themselves here.”
One player who didn’t make the squad was forward Colin Parker, of Newport, who was acquired for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2024 draft. The pick would have went to West Kent had Parker, 20, played a regular season game for Valley. Now the team is sorting out roles and seeing how players fit together as it builds a team. The team will be without the services of 20-year-old forward Cole Foston, who broke his hand Sept. 8, for about a month.
The team hasn’t announced a captain yet. Ethan Landry and Ethan Kearney, who graduated from junior hockey in 2022-23, wore the C last season for Valley. The Wildcats acquired 18-year-old goalie Will Hodgson from Edmundston on Sept. 10. The Wildcats sent a fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft and future considerations to the Blizzard. Hodgson played 18 games with the Fredericton Caps major under-18 program in 2022-23.
